The 2011 trip to Hatfield McCoy for Trailfest and riding is set for Sunday, October 2 through Monday, October 10. We'll be staying at Twin Hollow once again.
We had a good work day in Charles County, Md, on Sunday, February 20. We got some old trails cleaned out. Had a nice bonfire and lunch. We had some driver training on the RZR, made plans to renovate the cabin, cut some new trails, had a little target practice, some relaxin, and set some new deer stands. Oh, and found my lost cel phone...twice!
H-M Trails Gets New Home At The Rita Mall

LYBURN — It’s been a banner year for building on the Hatfield-McCoy Trails with a new system being put in Mercer County and several new miles of dirtbike trails in Mingo County. But, in a few months, the Hatfield-McCoy Regional Recreation Authority should be moving into its new home.

Executive Director Jeff Lusk said the headquarters to the HMRRA will be moving to a renovated structure at the old Rita Mall that will be more size efficient and more energy efficient than the Lyburn headquarters.

“We should be moving into our new home within the next 75 days,” Jeff Lusk said on Feb. 16.

The HMRRA has obtained the old Bonanza steakhouse building at the Rita Mall which is being stripped down to the steel shell and completely renovated for Hatfield-McCoy’s use.

“We will be losing about ten thousand square feet, but the move will save us a lot of money on utility bills as in our old facility we were having to heat the entire structure in the winter and cool it in the summer,” Lusk said explaining that the new headquarters will still have plenty of space for storage.

The new facility will have a 30x61-foot storage facility next to it and the center of the structure will be a conference room surrounded by offices. There will be a retail sales section as well.

Lusk has focused on increasing operating revenues since coming on board as director of the trails five years ago with his initiatives on merchandising and other moves and the new physical move fits in with his frugal philosophy.

“We focus a lot on our costs and try to minimize them as much as we can. We were only using about 5,000 square feet in the building we are currently in,” Lusk said.

The current home of the Hatfield-McCoy Regional Recreation Authority is a large concrete building originally built for the Pittston Coal Company across a steel bridge in Lyburn. Lusk noted that the new facility will also be closer to the highway and easier to access by people who are not from the area. A new tenant is expected to move into the old facility.

“I am very excited about moving into this new structure which has been designed and sized for our company,” Lusk said.
